This portrait was painted in the early weeks of the full-scale war in Ukraine. At that time, the pain became so unbearable that the tears stopped flowing. But at that very moment, the resilience of my people seemed impossible not to capture. The world witnessed a nation standing firm, defending its land, its freedom, and its right to exist—a world about which I still have many questions.
The woman in this portrait is Ukrainian. She carries within her the strength that I saw in soldiers, medics, volunteers, artists, and mothers who united their communities and held the line. Her beauty lives not only in her appearance but also in her gaze, courage, and indomitable spirit. This painting is a tribute to Ukrainian women and a reminder that resilience is a superpower.
